So I finally gave the new Yo La Tengo a chance. Only one so far and I’m excited to start my second listen. The album is a bit more popish and dancy and all, until you get the the final track which is good but doesn’t reach the same heights that "The Story of Yo La Tango" did. Of course this is still only after my first listen so it’s not really fair to judge. So why haven’t I given Popular Songs more of a listen you ask? Well partly because I’ve become a little obsessed with the new Modest Mouse EP. I walk around singing "King Rat" continuously and I’m getting a lot of weird looks. Isaac Brock continues to become a Disney villain and I applaud him every step of the way. I just can’t get the tunes out of my head. Sure it’s just a bunch of unused stuff from the last two albums, but I’m all about collecting every piece of music I can from bands that I’m obsessed with, even if the obsession only lasts for a few minutes, I need to have it all.
And the rest of my time has been devoted to listening to Meadowlands. I can’t stop. I’m not complaining. I need something when I’m continuously playing online Risk.
